The Greater Golden Horseshoe is one of the hottest housing markets in Ontario, if not all of Canada. But limited supply, rising prices and other issues are posing some challenging questions for homebuyers. For answers, we enlisted the help of Jeff Paikin, President, at New Horizon Development Group.
NextHome: For New Horizon, 2017 was a year of…
Jeff Paikin: Excitement. We completed two terrific projects in Oakville and moved the needle on many others under construction.
NH: And 2018 will be highlighted by…
JP: We are excited to expand the selection of housing in two separate communities. We’re working on bringing multiple modern condo buildings to Waterdown (trendliving.ca), a first for this area. We’re also putting our Focus on Brantford – literally. For the first time ever, Focus towns in Brantford will offer residents stylish back-to-back townhomes. We’re excited to get these developments underway in these communities.
NH: What differentiates your company from others in the industry?
JP: We continue to put our mark of excellence on all forms of developments, whether they’re custom estates, planned neighbourhoods or condominiums. From pioneering new technologies such as geothermal energy to hand curating superior site locations, New Horizon continues to push the envelope to provide the very best for our customers.
NH: What is New Horizon doing to address housing affordability?
JP: We’ve partnered with Trillium Housing for two exciting new communities, which will improve housing affordability for potential future homeowners. In addition, many of our condominiums are designed to help with first-time homeownership.
NH: What can buyers look forward to most in one of your homes?
JP: We pride ourselves on providing our customers with unquestionable quality, style and functionality. Customers can look forward to a turnkey home with our wide variety of selections to customize it to meet their lifestyle needs, wants and desires. We are driven to redefine the buyer’s expectations for what a home can be.
NH: If asked by the next provincial government for advice on land supply and other policy issues, what would you tell them?
JP: The world of economics centres on supply and demand. If housing affordability and supply is something the province really wants to have an impact on, then the approval process needs to happen faster and the supply side needs to gain momentum so there are real choices in the market for the eager potential homeowner.
NH: Any advice for homebuyers?
JP: First and foremost, have your finances in order. It is incredibly important to understand what you can or cannot afford. Focus on selecting a community that suits your life plan. Try to envisage what your life will look like over a five-year span. Explore different neighbourhoods to find the best fit for you and your family. Finally, enjoy every minute of it – buying a home is one of life’s greatest milestones!
